Hasto Kristiyanto, Secretary General of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), stated that they see a phenomenon of overshooting in the 2024 Election, resulting in Prabowo-Gibran receiving an excessive number of votes.
“We see that there is a phenomenon of overshooting. It’s like when hunting, the shooting is excessive. This has happened in East Timor in the 1997 Election,” Hasto said during a press conference at the PDIP Central Office in Menteng, Jakarta, on Wednesday (14/2).
Overshooting is a term commonly used in economics, referring to something exceeding its normal limits. It is known that in the 1997 Election, Golkar received 84.70 percent of the votes in East Timor. This was significantly different from the votes of its two rival parties, PDI receiving 13.49 percent and PPP only gaining 1.82 percent.
“When a massive operation is carried out, the ruling regime at that time was shocked because the ruling party at that time received almost 100 percent,” Hasto said.
The phenomenon of overshooting is evident due to the significant difference between the vote counts within the country and the exit polls conducted outside the country.
According to him, voters outside the country were not influenced by issues and efforts to influence voting for specific candidates through social assistance programs, resulting in the failure of the Prabowo-Gibran ticket to garner a majority of their votes.
“The exit polls conducted outside the country reflect the absence of social assistance operations, the absence of intimidation operations, and the absence of involvement from state institutions, allowing Indonesian citizens to express their choices clearly,” Hasto said.
In response to this issue, the PDIP Central Executive Board recommended that the National Campaign Team (TPN) of Ganjar-Mahfud form a special team focused on gathering various irregularities in the 2024 Presidential Election.
“For this, we will propose to the National Campaign Team of Ganjar-Mahfud to establish a special team,” Hasto said.
