Prabowo Subianto Aims to Reduce Public University Tuition Fees: We Must Calculate

Jakarta – The President-elect, Prabowo Subianto, is committed to reducing the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) for public universities. Therefore, in his forthcoming leadership, he will work hard to realize this ambition.

This was stated by Prabowo during an exclusive interview on TvOne titled “Prabowo Subianto Speaks for Indonesia” today, Wednesday, (22/5).

“Especially in state universities, which are funded by public money (state budget), the fees should not be high, if possible, very minimal or free. We have to calculate and work hard for it,” said Prabowo.

He also highlighted how the education system has drastically changed since the New Order era, where education has turned into an industry that adopts capitalist values.

“So, the thinking is that everything can become a market, whereas it is public goods, a social obligation for a country,” Prabowo emphasized.

Looking forward, with the continuous evolution of the times, Prabowo stated that the government will seek ways to make improvements in the education sector.

One of the programs expected to significantly increase state revenue is the industrial downstreaming initiated by President Jokowi.

“Of course, we must carry out downstreaming to gain added value and improve our education,” he stated.
