Prabowo Subianto Meets New Singapore Prime Minister, Congratulates and Discusses Defense Cooperation

Singapore— The President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, met with Singapore’s new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana in Singapore on Saturday (1/6).

Prabowo arrived at the Istana dressed in a gray suit and black peci, and was warmly welcomed by Wong.

“Good morning, Mr. President-elect,” greeted Lawrence Wong to Prabowo.

“How are you? Thank you very much. Once again, congratulations!” said Prabowo to Lawrence Wong.

As known, Wong was recently elected as the Prime Minister of Singapore, succeeding Lee Hsien Loong, who resigned after serving for two decades.

“Thank you, it’s nice to meet you (Prabowo) again,” said Wong, who then invited Prabowo inside the Istana.

During this meeting, Prabowo also expressed his appreciation and warm thanks for Wong’s welcome to Prabowo and the Indonesian delegation at the Opening Reception of the 21st Edition of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore on Friday (31/5).

“Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality to me and the Indonesian delegation,” said Prabowo.

Moreover, Prabowo, in his capacity as the defense minister, expressed his highest appreciation for the leadership and the well-established communication between Indonesia and Singapore up to this point.

“Indonesia is committed to strengthening bilateral relations with Singapore. The Indonesian Ministry of Defense is ready to enhance defense cooperation especially following the enactment of the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), which includes joint training, maritime security, and educational exchange programs,” said Prabowo.

Later at the Shangri-La Dialogue 2024, Prabowo is also scheduled to deliver a special address at the forum on Saturday afternoon (1/6). Prabowo’s speech will be moderated by the Executive Chairman of the IISS, John Chipman.
