President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the lasting significance of the “Bandung Spirit” during the recent BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, highlighted that President Prabowo emphasized the country’s dedication to global peace and adherence to international law in his address at the forum. The President reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for global peace through multilateralism and the importance of respecting international law, firmly rejecting war and the use of double standards in international relations. Airlangga also mentioned President Prabowo’s reminder to BRICS leaders of the importance of upholding the “Bandung Spirit,” which represents solidarity among developing nations established at the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia. Indonesia’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir, confirmed that the reference to Bandung was well-received by the summit’s host country, Brazil. Before President Prabowo mentioned the Bandung Spirit, Brazil as the Chair had already referred to the Bandung principles in its opening statement, expressing hope that BRICS could revive the Bandung legacy to further promote the interests of developing nations.
