The Indonesian Government, in collaboration with the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), has launched the Sports Scholarship Program. This program aims to support active and retired athletes, as well as sports professionals, in pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees, both domestically and internationally. By offering scholarships, the government shows its commitment to developing sustainable human capital within the national sports ecosystem.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, highlighted that the scholarship program is designed to provide opportunities for retired athletes to transition into new careers beyond sports competition. The program offers two entry tracks: performance enhancement and achievement recognition, allowing sports professionals to contribute to sports science, management, and national policy development.
In the future, the Ministry of Youth and Sports plans to expand the program to undergraduate levels and revive sports schools nationwide in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. This long-term vision aims to cultivate a generation of excellence through a sports-focused educational approach, from early development to professional realization.
The initiative has received praise from Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Prof. Pratikno, who emphasized the importance of sports in character development. Acting President Director of LPDP, Sudarto, highlighted the selective and inclusive nature of the program, emphasizing education as the key to success.
With the launch of the Sports Scholarship Program, the government reaffirms its commitment to sports as a platform for intellectual and social growth. This initiative demonstrates the government’s presence in supporting athletes throughout their careers and beyond.
