President Prabowo Subianto will inaugurate the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (Village/Urban Cooperative “Merah Putih”) on July 21, 2025, as part of his Asta Cita initiative aimed at boosting local economies and alleviating poverty at the village level. This cooperative is part of a larger poverty eradication strategy introduced by the current administration, focusing on health, education, and socio-economic development. The program, launched through a Presidential Instruction, involves multiple ministries, agencies, and local government officials nationwide to uplift communities and reduce inequality. By tackling poverty, the government aims to improve access to essential services like education and healthcare, ultimately supporting Indonesia’s vision of development in 2045. The Kopdes Merah Putih program will establish 80,000 cooperatives, with 103 model prototypes to be launched initially to ensure operational success before full implementation. These cooperative units will follow an inclusive and community-driven approach to strengthen rural economies, improve food security, and eliminate exploitative practices. Through direct purchase of agricultural products, the cooperatives aim to empower farmers, shorten supply chains, and enhance access to resources and services in rural areas. The initiative also includes plans to establish cooperative offices, food outlets, savings and loan units, healthcare facilities, and logistics hubs to improve community access to essential goods and services.
