BGN Suspends Nutrition Services in East Nusa Tenggara: Update

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has suspended the operations of its Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as a result of substandard food found in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the BGN, stated that the affected SPPG units are temporarily halted while investigations are ongoing and food samples from the MBG program are being tested. Independent institutions, local health, and education departments are collaborating with BGN to identify the cause of the incident and monitor the health of affected students. BGN expressed deep apologies to students, parents, schools, and all impacted parties, emphasizing zero tolerance for any negligence in food procurement and distribution that may endanger the beneficiaries’ health. The agency is working closely with local government authorities to ensure a swift and effective response to the situation. Measures being taken include rigorous partner screening, enhanced hygiene standards, improved supply chain monitoring, and the establishment of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on best practices. BGN is committed to upholding food safety standards and ensuring the MBG Program benefits the recipients without compromising their health. The agency believes with stakeholders’ support and vigilance, the program can continue to serve the people effectively.
