Yansarto (34), a resident of Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency, was found dead by his wife hanging in their home on Jalan Desa Kapur, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency.
Before the incident, Yansarto had slept with his wife, but when his wife woke up around 9:21 pm, Yansarto was not by her side. She went out of the room to look for him, and upon finding him hanging with a rope in the kitchen, she screamed in horror.
The wife rushed out of the house to seek help from neighbors, and soon one of them contacted the Sungai Raya Police Sector to report the suicide. The police officers along with the Kubu Raya District Criminal Investigation Unit immediately secured the crime scene and questioned witnesses.
Sungai Raya Police Chief, AKP Setyo Pramulyanto, stated that the incident took place on Sunday night (3/3/24) at around 9:30 pm in a housing complex on Jalan Raya Desa Kapur, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency.
After conducting on-site investigations and questioning witnesses, the police evacuated the victim’s body for an external post-mortem examination at Bhayangkara Anton Soedjarwo Hospital in Pontianak. There were no signs of violence on the body.
Further investigation revealed that the victim had been hospitalized at Sungai Bangkong Mental Hospital for three days in December 2023 due to depression. The victim had also reportedly carried a sharp weapon around the complex, causing fear among residents.
It is suspected that the victim committed suicide by hanging himself due to depression. The victim’s family refused an autopsy and accepted the cause of death as suicide, but the police will continue their investigation.
