Prabowo: 2026 Education Budget Breaks Record at Rp 757.8 Trillion

In his State Budget 2026 Financial Note address at the House of Representatives, President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasized the government’s dedication to education. The proposed budget, amounting to Rp 757.8 trillion, is the largest in the country’s history and reflects the administration’s commitment to quality education. Prabowo highlighted the importance of effective utilization of education funds, with priorities such as improving teacher welfare and quality, enhancing vocational training, and aligning curricula with workforce demands.

The allocation breakdown includes funding for programs like Indonesia Pintar for 21.1 million students, scholarships for 1.2 million university students through Kartu Indonesia Pintar, and investments in school and campus facilities totaling Rp 150.1 trillion. Additionally, funds will be allocated for teacher and lecturer salaries, emphasizing provisions for professional allowances.

Furthermore, the President pledged to strengthen People’s Schools and Garuda Excellence Schools to provide quality education opportunities for underprivileged children. The government aims to expand access to scholarships through the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), with a target of awarding scholarships to 4,000 students in 2026.

Prabowo concluded his address by stressing the need to enhance Indonesia’s capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The government’s focus on education reflects its commitment to producing globally competitive human resources and eradicating poverty through quality education initiatives.
