President Joko Widodo has appointed General Tandyo Budi as Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Along with this appointment, six new Regional Military Command (Kodam) commanders, 20 brigade commanders, and 100 Territorial Development Battalions were also installed. The President also presented the Bintang Sakti Medal of Honor to soldiers who showed exceptional integrity.
In his statement, President Joko Widodo emphasized the importance of leaders leading from the front. He mentioned that military leaders should be the first line of protection for their soldiers in dangerous situations. The President rejected the idea of commanders staying behind the lines and urged them to lead by example.
President Joko Widodo reminded military leaders to care for and train their troops as they would their own children. He stressed the importance of nurturing and training subordinates well, without cruelty. The President concluded by reiterating the TNI’s identity and mission as the people’s army, born from the people, serving and defending them, and being ready to sacrifice for them.
